What is the Secondment Worker visa?
The UK Secondment Worker Visa is part of the Global Business Mobility route, which lets companies from outside the UK send their employees to work for another company in the UK
What are the requirements for the Secondment Worker visa?
To be eligible for a Secondment Worker visa, applicant must meet the following requirements:
– be an existing employee of an overseas organisation having a high-value contract with applicant’s UK sponsor that has been approved by the Home Office
– have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from the sponsor explaining the work applicant will be doing in the UK
– have worked for overseas employer for at least 12 months outside the UK
– do a job that is on the list of qualified jobs.
Is it possible to switch into Secondment Worker Visa?
If you are already in the UK under a different visa category, you may be able to apply to switch to a Secondment Worker visa as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. If you switch your visa, your partner’s or child’s visa would not automatically change to the new one.
Is it possible to switch from a Student visa to a Secondment Worker Visa?
If you are in the UK on a Student visa and wish to transition to a Secondment Worker visa, you’ll need to satisfy the eligibility criteria, which include the following: Successful completion of the sponsored course, and work start date is after your course; and minimum of 24 months of studying for a PhD
Which visa categories are not allowed to switch to the Secondment Worker Visa?
If you are currently in the UK, you cannot switch to this visa: on a visit visa, on a short-term student visa, on a Parent of a Child Student visa on a seasonal worker visa, on a domestic worker in a private household and visa on immigration bail because you were granted permission to remain outside of immigration rules, such as on compassionate grounds.
If you fall into one of these categories, you must leave the UK and apply for a Secondment Worker visa from abroad.
How long is the Secondment Worker Visa valid for?
With a Secondment Worker visa, applicants can stay in the UK for as long as:
– Twelve months following the start date of the employment specified in the sponsorship certificate.
– The duration specified on the sponsorship certificate plus 14 days.
Can a Secondment Worker Visa be extended?
Applicants have the option to extend their visa for one additional year if they wish to prolong their stay in the UK. However, the maximum duration for a Secondment Worker visa is two years.
How much does a Secondment Worker visa application cost?
Alongside the requirement of having funds at least £1,270, if applicable, the applicant must also cover an application fee of £298, as well as the annual immigration health surcharge, which amounts to £624 subject to increase to £1,035.
Can a Secondment Worker visa refusal be appealed?
If an applicant’s application for a Secondment Worker visa is denied by the Home Office UKVI, they can request an Administrative Review but not appeal.
